Tips For Selling a Property With Japanese Knotweed

Japanese Knotweed is a very invasive kind of weed that not only grows very thickly, but it grows very deeply too. Not only is it incredibly unattractive and can overtake the landscape, but it is also problematic due to how forceful and fast-growing it is. If it is not removed properly or managed sufficiently enough it can take root in most of the garden space where it develops. Another huge problem it can cause is that it will grow through brickwork, causing very serious issues with the structural integrity of your property. As a result, it is quite common for mortgage companies to refuse to lend on properties with knotweed. Without a mortgage, buyers are unable to buy your property.

It is for this reason that many people look to other methods for selling their properties.

How Do You Spot Japanese Knotweed?

You may not know you have Japanese Knotweed in your garden. Given how easy it is to incorrectly identify plants, it makes sense that you would want to know how to spot Japanese Knotweed, so you know it is definitely this problem plant you are dealing with.

As it is a plant that goes through different growth and life cycles throughout the year, it looks different at different points in the year. Having said that, there are several things you can look out for. For instance, Japanese Knotweed tends to bloom around mid-March. We understand that’s not quite enough to give an accurate identification. Fortunately, there are distinctive shapes, textures, and colours you need to look out for too. It has very unique shoots, for example, with purple and red visible as the main colours. As the year goes on and the stems begin to develop into more Bamboo-like and large leaves start to appear. Just before autumn, in the dying weeks of summer, your Japanese Knotweed will start growing white flowers and the leaves will eventually look like little shovels.

Why Does It Spread So Easily?

One of the biggest problems with Japanese Knotweed, as we have already noted, is just how quickly it can spread. All it takes is stems and fragments being dispersed around your garden and they can take root. This is why it is not the best idea to try and remove the plant yourself because any attempt to cut it or move it can simply create more opportunities for fragments to fall to the ground and take root. There have been Japanese Knotweed that has restarted the entire growth cycle of a full plant from just tiny fragments or pieces.

Shoes, animals, and other items of clothing can also spread the plant. If you want to try and remove it, the first move you need to make it block off access to it, so that no one including animals can accidentally rub against it or touch it. Obviously, if you plan to remove it, you should only hire professionals who have tried and tested methods and experience dealing with Japanese Knotweed.

How Can You Sell Your Home If Japanese Knotweed is Present?

You may wonder if there is any hope of selling your property if it has Japanese Knotweed. Although it seems hopeless, unless you can really get it under control and take a gradual and consistent approach to eradicate it, there are some options out there. Namely, property cash buyers.

As property cash buyers who legitimately can buy property directly with cash without a mortgage or any other help and who are not waiting for the sale of another property, they are the perfect companies to look to when you have exhausted other options when trying to sell a property with knotweed.
